Omega Institute of Holistic Studies
Omega Institute of Holistic Studies was founded in 1977 at a
time when holistic health, psychological inquiry, world music
and art, meditation, and new forms of spiritual practice were
just budding in American culture. Omega Institute of Holistic
Studies mission was as simple as it was large: To look everywhere
for the most effective strategies and inspiring traditions that
might help people bring more meaning and vitality into their lives.
Since then, Omega Institute of Holistic Studies has become the
nation's largest holistic learning center. Every year more than
20,000 people attend workshops, retreats, and conferences on its
140-acre campus in the countryside of Rhinebeck, New York, and
at other sites around the country.
While Omega Institute of Holistic Studies has grown, our mission
remains the same. Omega is not aligned with any particular healing
method or spiritual tradition. Omega Institute of Holistic Studies
programs feature all of the world's wisdom traditions and are
committed to offering people an opportunity to explore their own
path to better health, personal growth, and inner peace.
The name "Omega" was inspired by the writings of Teilhard
de Chardin, a 20th-century mystic and philosopher who used the
word "Omega" to describe the point where all thought
converges. This refers particularly to that point within each
one of us where our inner, spiritual nature meets our outer, worldly
nature. Teilhard believed that in the synthesis of these two domains
of life lay the greatest challenge-and the greatest hope-for human
evolution. Of his belief in the balance between world and spirit,
Teilhard wrote, "I am going to broadcast the seed and let
the wind carry it where it will."
Omega Institute of Holistic Studies has taken on the task of helping
spread that seed so that a better world for all of us can continue
to take root and grow.
Since 1977, through our workshops and retreats, Omega Institute
of Holistic Studies has been a pioneer in exploring, teaching,
and embracing new ideas. We have also had another mission: to
create a peaceful oasis in a hurried world. To this end, we have
made our campus a healing center, a place where you can relax,
rejuvenate, and feel at home in the midst of nature's bounty and
a community of warm, caring people.
The beauty of our gardens, lake, and rolling hills, the friendly
staff, the wonderful food, and the facilities at our Wellness
Center all support what people come to Omega Institute of Holistic
Studies to learn. Most of all, it is the sincerity and openness
of everyone here that make Omega Institute of Holistic Studies
a place where you can find within yourself the courage to become
a happier, healthier, and more spirited person.
HLC'S INTENDS TO JOINT VENTURE WITH OTHER
"SPIRIT FIRST!" ORGANIZATIONS
LIKE OMEGA INSTITUTE OF HOLISTIC STUDIES TO BUILD.
SELF-MASTERY K-12 NON-PROFIT ACADEMY'S: By 2014, HLC intends
to create K-12 Self-mastery Academies as a joint venture project
with other "Spirit First!" organizations like Omega Institute
of Holistic Studies. This has been our founders Hu Dalconzo's
dream ever since he was an inner city schoolteacher almost 30-years
ago. Just imagine a network of K-12 schools where besides reading,
writing and arithmetic, our curriculum will integrate Self-mastery
skills such as Self-parenting so that our students can learn how
to get their Emotional Dependency Needs met. Emotional dependency
needs are the intimacy, nurturing, and unconditional love that
a child "needs" in order to feel safe, sane, and secure so that
he/she can grow up to be an emotionally mature, highly functional
adult. Our Self-mastery schools will use HLC's clinically proven
teaching methods, which takes complex self-help subjects such
as Self-parenting from an abstract, hard to understand theoretical
concept and breaks it down piece by piece into a step by step,
easy to understand, specific set of emotionally Self-nurturing
exercises to make it easy for our K-12 teachers to instruct. Our
K-12 teachers will instruct our joint venture students on how
to master the pieces of Self-mastery, one at a time, until they
have fulfilled all of their emotional dependency needs, while
they are receiving a standardized K-12 education.
MANY OF HLC'S STUDENTS HAVE ATTENDED
OMEGA INSTITUTE OF HOLISTIC STUDIES WORKSHOPS
Many of HLC's holistic practitioner & professional
certification students have taken workshops at organizations such
as OMEGA INSTITUTE OF HOLISTIC STUDIES. Many of HLC's students
are holistic practitioners, medical doctors, counselors, chiropractors,
massage therapists, yoga instructors, meditation teachers, reflexologists,
hypnotherapists, NLP practitioners and transpersonal psychologists.
Often HLC students have received there preparatory
education from schools and training organizations such as Landmark
Education, Clayton College of Natural Health, American Institute
of Holistic Theology, Avatar, Esalen, American Society of Alternative
Therapists, Columbia Commonwealth University and California Studies
of Integrative Medicine.
Usually HLC's SELF-CARE, FAMILY CARE, AND SELF-HELP MASTERY STUDENTS
are people who are interested in holistic health, nutrition, mediation,
Reiki, Tai Chi, Concept Therapy and yoga.
Typically HLC students have read books by authors
such as: Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Edgar
Cayce, Ram Dass, Stephen Levine, Eckhart Tolle, Stuart Wilde,
Emmet Fox, Charles Fillmore, Gary Zukav, John Bradshaw, Neale
Donald Walsch, Richard Bach, Catherine Ponder, Louise Hay, Shakti
Gawain, and John Gray, to name a few.
